Beijing launched 39 exhibitions and other cultural activities during the Qingming Festival, inviting people to experience traditions and honor ancestors.
The Qingming Festival, also known as the Tomb-sweeping Day, is a day to remember and honor the departed. The festival takes place on April 5 this year, and it also marks the solar term Qingming, meaning “clear and bright” in Chinese. On this day, people across the country would clean the tombs of their loved ones and go on spring outings.
On Tuesday, Beijing Folk Customs Museum held activities including kite painting, the arrow-throwing game Pitch-pot, and willow branch shooting. The Capital Museum will also hold kite painting and folk customs storytelling activities on the Qingming Festival. Dajue Temple will invite visitors to magnolia flowers viewing and tea tasting activities.
There will also be memorials for famous historical figures at their former residences. In addition, science museums will roll out commemorating ceremonies, poem readings, and science education activities.
