Luohu will build another seven electrical substations by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, according to the district government.

With the acceleration of urban construction and development, the demand for electricity is growing quickly in Luohu.

Statistics show that 1 kWh of electricity supply contributes about 30 yuan ($4.37) to Shenzhen's gross domestic product. It is clear that electricity plays an increasingly important supporting role in ensuring economic and social development.

Luohu has only built two new electric substations over the past 10 years, and the gap between the district's power supply and demand is widening, especially in Sungang, Qingshuihe, and Dongxiao sub-districts.

For example, the newly increased demands for electricity in Sungang and Dongxiao are about 120,000 kVA and 110,000 kVA, respectively, which can only be satisfied by building new electric substations.

Accelerating the construction of its electric infrastructural facilities is conducive to providing a reliable guarantee for the high-quality socioeconomic development in the district, the government said.

Five of the seven new electric substations in Luohu will have a 110 kV capacity, while the remaining two will have a capacity of 220 kV.

It is estimated that Luohu's power supply capacity will increase by more than 30% in 2025 and 45% in 2030 compared with 2022. After the seven electric substations are put into operation, they will effectively meet relevant areas' rising power demands and further optimize the entire district's power grid structure.

With more electric substations in operation, the adjacent substations can effectively support one another and alleviate peak power demand pressures during the summer and winter seasons. This will greatly improve the reliability and stability of the overall power grid.

The design of the electric substation should be consistent with the surrounding architectural style, and the specific design will take on recommendations by local residents, the government said.

In the substations' construction process, a building information modeling (BIM) digital management platform will be applied, as too will typical green construction practices.

In addition, the construction technologies of mechanized construction, intelligent perception, and intelligent management and control will be innovatively applied so as to build the substations into high-quality green ones.

In addition, the substations' prefabricated steel structures will greatly save building space and shorten construction time by about 50% of standard construction time.
