The 2023 Museum Cultural Heritage and Innovative Design Competition of Beijing kicked off in the Chinese capital on Wednesday. Building upon the established themes from previous years, this year's competition introduces a new track to celebrate the 870th anniversary of the establishment of Beijing as a capital city.

The competition invites museums in Beijing, and designers and cultural and creative enterprises and institutions across the country to submit creative designs featuring elements of Beijing museums.

The contest consists of four main tracks, with the newly added track encouraging participants to delve into the political, cultural, and ethnic connotations of 870 items from the Capital Museum collections, in order to illustrate the development and changes that have transpired since Beijing became the Chinese capital 870 years ago.

The other three tracks continue to challenge participants' creativity, inviting them to draw inspiration from Beijing museum collections, China's traditional 24 solar terms, and revolutionary cultural relics.

This year's event encourages joint participation from museums and private sectors to promote the use and authorized development of museums' cultural resources.

The Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau also plans to accelerate the categorization and licensing of museum collection IP creations and creative designs, in order to facilitate the transformation of cultural resources into marketable products and creative spaces.

The contest will run until December.
