In celebration of the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, parks in Beijing will roll out 69 activities themed on traditional folk customs, science popularization, and cultural events.
The festival, known in Chinese as "Duanwu," will fall on Thursday this year.
Visitors to the parks across the city like the Summer Palace, Jingshan Park, and Yuyuantan Park will have the opportunity to make zongzi (glutinous rice dumplings), a traditional food of the festival.
In the Summer Palace, visitor can learn about the dragon boat, a cultural symbol of the festival, by assembling dragon boats themselves.
Tiantan Park will roll out a series of activities to help visitors better understand the traditional folk customs for this festival, such as making perfume satchels and knitting five-colored ropes.
Science popularization exhibitions will also be held across the city. For instance, Yuyuantan Park will hold exhibitions centering on birds and wetland protection.
In addition, a plethora of cultural activities will be held to celebrate the three-day holiday.
Suzhou embroidery and hundreds of pieces of traditional Chinese clothing will be displayed at the Beihai Park and the Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture, respectively.
An exhibition on the guqin, an ancient seven-stringed zither in China, will be launched at Jingshan Park; parents and children will be able to explore traditional Chinese cuisines through books at the Zizhuyuan Park; Xiangshan Park will also hold science popularization activities for parents and children.
