The Beijing Art Center, one of the three major public cultural venues in Beijing's sub-center, conducted its first test performance on Wednesday, marking a significant stride toward its official opening.
"I am deeply honored to be on stage here. At the same time, as a music lover, I am also very happy that Beijing has another world-class concert hall," stated Ning Feng, a renowned violinist, invited to render the "Violin Concerto in D Major" for the test event.
The Beijing Art Center includes a 1,800-seat opera house, a 1,550-seat concert hall, a 1,000-seat drama theater, a 500-seat small theater, a 650-seat outdoor theater, and public service spaces for rehearsals, international cultural exchanges, art exhibitions, and public recreation. In May of this year, the outdoor theater pioneered staging charity performances. Presently, the concert hall is the first indoor theater ready for use within the art center, featuring a 22-meter-wide and 15-meter-deep stage that can accommodate a four-pipe symphony orchestra.
After the first half of the performance, a ball-shaped device was positioned at the stage's center to test sound source. With a full audience, the test sound source emitted a frequency sweep signal from low to high, and the staff used microphones for continuous testing in five sections of the auditorium to assess the sound field impact.
It is reported that the National Center for the Performing Arts Orchestra is the first artistic ensemble to establish its presence in the Beijing Art Center. They are scheduled to deliver a second test performance on Thursday. In late October, Maestro Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra are set to visit, marking the debut of a foreign artistic group at the Beijing Art Center.
