Beijing, a global hub for innovation and technology, is celebrating a decade of remarkable achievements in sci-tech cooperation with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Over the past 10 years, the Chinese capital has leveraged its technology prowess and innovation assets and capabilities to engage in collaborative efforts with BRI partner countries.

Beijing has made substantial accomplishments in various areas of cooperation, including the establishment of joint laboratories, enhanced collaboration between technology parks, facilitating international technology transfers, and supporting tech companies in contributing to the prosperity and development of partner nations, according to the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park.

The Sino-Russian Mathematics Center, led by Peking University and Moscow State University, is one of the joint laboratories established to promote the BRI. Over the past three years, the center has held more than 150 academic exchange events, and invited eminent Russian mathematicians to teach 20 online courses.

In recent years, members of the Beijing Innovation Alliance have engaged in more than 60 international exchanges and collaborations with 16 countries, demonstrating Beijing's commitment to sharing its technological resources for the development of BRI partner nations.

Beijing has also become a focal point for international scientific exchange events over the years. Events such as the Zhongguancun Forum (ZGC Forum) and the China International Fair for Trade in Services have become major platforms for global scientific collaboration. During the 2023 ZGC Forum, diplomats from BRI partner nations and regions including Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Somalia attended, while online sessions were held in Johannesburg, Dubai, and Singapore.

In addition, Beijing's tech companies are exporting their innovative technologies and products to BRI partners. Examples include national-level medical imaging and telemedicine centers built between Beijing-based healthcare IT company Hinacom and BRI partner countries like Malaysia and Sri Lanka, as well as a genetic testing research and development project between Microread Genetics and Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan.

Officials from the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park pledged to boost innovation cooperation and private-sector partnerships, in order to build Beijing into a model city for the BRI.
