Chengdu Rail Transit (CRT) lunched two sci-fi theme subway trains, called “when Chengdu meets the future”, on Line 2 of Chengdu Metro, including tickets, cards and tube services, for the 2023 World Science Fiction Convention Chengdu (WorldCon), capital of Sichuan province, hosted from Oct. 18 to 22.

The company also decorated some subway stations during the WorldCon in Chengdu in the style of science fictions to create a sci-fi environment and atmosphere for passengers.

This is the first time a Chinese city hosting the WorldCon, an annual convention of the World Science Fiction Society, since its debut in 1939.

Chengdu is committed to building itself into a “sci-fi city”, and the CRT’s work during the event is part of the city’s efforts in that direction.

The design of the two trains is inspired by the unique science fiction elements of the mysterious ancient shu culture unique to the province. The streamlined car body design, unique color matching, and fine decorative details have demonstrated a full sense of future and science and technology.

According to CRT, when passengers embark on these "trains of the future", they are expected to feel as if they are crossing the stars, opening a time and space tour.

The company said, relevant theme trains and stations will continue to be used after the WorldCon, so that citizens and passengers can still feel the charm of science fiction on the way to travel, creating an atmosphere for the love of science and advocates innovation in the city.
