More than 60 officials and business representatives from 13 countries visited Beijing-based companies on Monday as part of a seminar held by China’s Ministry of Commerce.

The delegation members are from Belt and Road partner countries and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) countries, including Latvia, Tajikistan, Malaysia, and Greece.

They visited e-commerce giant JD.com, where they were shown the autonomous delivery vehicles, logistics robots, and other state-of-the-art technologies at the company.

Aleksandrs Bartaševičs, mayor of Rēzekne, Latvia, said he was amazed by the rapid development of JD.com. He said that there are many things that Latvian companies can learn from JD.com, including its development philosophy and sci-tech innovation.

Qi Yan from JD.com said the company has been committed to building the Online Silk Road since the inception of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). To date, 50 countries have set up national-level stores on JD.com, selling products from food and beverages to apparel and cosmetics.

On Monday, the delegation also visited the National Innovation Center of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles, which studies and spearheads autonomous driving across China.

Shang Wei, an official of the Beijing Investment Promotion Service Center, said the event has provided a platform of exchange and cooperation for business representatives from BRI and RCEP countries and Beijing-based companies, adding that more opportunities will be created to promote international exchange for Beijing companies.
