The Inter-Civilizational Communication and Global Development Forum, hosted by the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (China National Academy of Governance), opened in Beijing on Nov. 7. The three-day forum features three sub-forums and a roundtable discussion.

Themed "Traditions of Civilization and Paths to Modernization," the forum aims to enhance inter-civilizational communication, facilitate the global exchange of ideas, drive institutional innovation and technological advancement, promote sustainable development, and establish a civilizational order characterized by inclusivity, openness, mutually beneficial cooperation, and peaceful development. Approximately 150 participants from more than 30 countries, including political figures, entrepreneurs, think-tank experts, scholars, cultural figures, and diplomats stationed in China, are in attendance.

During the forum's opening ceremony, Xie Chuntao, executive vice president of the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC, emphasized the importance of the China-proposed Global Civilization Initiative. He highlighted that the initiative offers a Chinese solution to drive global modernization and advance human civilization, which also inspired the forum's theme.

Xie also highlighted the significant role of Chinese modernization in mutual learning among global civilizations. He stated that as a new form of human civilization, Chinese modernization draws inspiration from other civilizations worldwide, contributing to the promotion of inter-civilizational exchange and global development.

"I admire the Chinese effort to define what they see as the future of this earth and of mankind. I find it even inspirational," said John Thornton, chair emeritus of the Brookings Institution. He expressed his agreement with the white paper China released in September titled "A Global Community of Shared Future: China's Proposals and Actions," affirming China's positive role in promoting the construction of a global community of shared future.

Yves Leterme, former Belgian prime minister, underscored the importance of China-European Union relations, stating their global significance is increasingly prominent and has the potential to shape the world. He advocated for a pluralistic approach to China-EU cooperation, calling for openness without restrictions and shared responsibilities to prevent exclusion.
