ISU Speed Skating World Cup kicks off in Beijing

Beijing's National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the "Ice Ribbon," kicked off the second stop of the 2023-24 International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating World Cup today, marking the latest top-tier speed skating competition in the "dual-Olympic city" following the Beijing Winter Olympics.

The Chinese speed skating team, led by Gao Tingyu, men's 500m speed skating gold medalist at the Beijing Winter Olympics, along with Ning Zhongyan, men's 1000m silver medalist and 1500m bronze medalist at this season's first stop in Japan's Obihiro, is poised as strong medal contenders in this competition.

Several top international athletes are participating in this World Cup, including American athlete Erin Jackson, women's 500m champion at the Beijing Winter Olympics; Belgian athlete Bart Swings, men's mass start champion at the Beijing Winter Olympics; and Dutch athlete Thomas Krol, men's 1000m champion at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
