The 2023 Beijing-Zhangjiakou Ice and Snow Season opened on Wednesday, with the two host cities of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics promising an ice and snow carnival for the public. The initiative includes a lineup of winter sports and related recreational activities.

The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism unveiled eight tourism routes at the event, ranging from Olympic venues to snow villages and parts of the Great Wall along the Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway line. A variety of winter sports, as well as outdoor and indoor recreational activities, will be featured during the tourism season.

All districts across Beijing have launched various activities to celebrate the upcoming ice and snow season.

In the western part of the city, Shijingshan district has announced five main tourism routes, including the Big Air Shougang, a venue for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, to further capitalize on the legacy of the major sports event. Beijing’s northern Changping district has issued over 10,000 coupons for skiing activities in major resorts across the district. Yanqing district, in the city’s northwest, has launched 150 activities across seven categories, including winter sports competitions, recreational winter sports, hot springs, and seasonal cuisines for winter.

Additionally, the eight major skiing resorts in Zhangjiakou, located in the northern part of Hebei province, have introduced over 20 activities, including music shows and winter camping, to offer a more diverse range of entertainment options for tourists during the ice and snow season.

Moreover, China Railway Beijing Group has upgraded the trains operating on the railway route between Beijing and Zhangjiakou to G-series trains, which offer higher speeds. The group has also added more trains to enhance transportation and meet growing travel demand during the winter.

To enhance the tourist experience, these trains have been equipped with child safety seats, first-aid kits, and other amenities.

The event is a collaborative effort organized by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports.
