The China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) held the unveiling ceremony for the monument designating the Soong Ching Ling Children's Science and Technology Museum as a national key cultural relics protection unit and the opening ceremony of the "Creating the Future" exhibition on Dec. 6. Li Bin, vice chairwoman of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and CSCLF chairperson, Shen Beili, CSCLF vice chairperson, and Luo Wenli, deputy director of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, attended the ceremony.

Shen Beili, in her address, highlighted the rich history and significance of the Soong Ching Ling Children's Science and Technology Museum. Established in the early days of reform and opening up, it holds the distinction of being Beijing's first national children's science and technology experience base. Built with contributions from Comrade Deng Xiaoping, the museum has dedicated 37 years to fostering scientific and technological literacy through cultural training and off-campus education programs. In recognition of its invaluable contribution, it was designated a national key cultural relics protection unit in 2019.

The report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) made it clear that education, science and technology, and human resources are the foundational and strategic pillars for building a modern socialist country in all respects, and emphasized the importance of speeding up efforts to achieve greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology.

Shen Beili stressed the crucial role of cultivating scientific literacy and innovative talents amongst youth. She emphasized the Soong Ching Ling Children's Science and Technology Museum's responsibility in fulfilling this mission through its youth scientific education exchange programs.

Shen Beili reaffirmed the foundation's commitment to staying aligned with contemporary needs, leveraging its unique strengths, and embodying Soong Ching Ling's visionary principles for the future. She declared the museum's unwavering dedication to actively promoting scientific education exchanges among teenagers. By delivering engaging and high-quality content, the museum aims to ignite young people's passion for science, exploration, and innovation, ultimately contributing to achieving national high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and propelling China's modernization forward.

Luo Wenli in his speech acknowledged the CSCLF's vital role in fostering international friendship, peace, cross-strait exchanges, and youth development. He mentioned that the foundation's commitment to cultural development and relic preservation was further solidified in 2020 with the strategic cooperation agreement between the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People (CSCLSCCYP) and the China Cultural Relics Exchange Center.

Luo highlighted the foundation's intensified efforts in protecting revolutionary relics, specifically its instrumental role in achieving the Soong Ching Ling Children's Science and Technology Museum's designation as a key cultural relic protection unit. He lauded the foundation's active implementation of various relic protection projects, including historical site renovations and restoration/damage prevention measures for top-tier relics.

Luo said that the "Creating the Future" exhibition, with its diverse exhibits and engaging interpretations, will profoundly illustrate the manifold values of revolutionary relic resources. He concluded by emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts in the new era to explore youth education, coordinate relic protection, and promote cultural prosperity, ultimately contributing to a brighter future for socialist cultural development.

After the ceremony, the guests visited the "Creating the Future" exhibition. The exhibition highlighted CSCLF's dedication to Soong Ching Ling's conviction that "we will always stand with the Party," and pursuit of its cause under the principle of "peace, reunification, and future." Its primary mission is to promote moral values, advance cultural, educational, and scientific and technological education for children, and support the growth and development of young individuals. The foundation has undertaken a series of experimental and exemplary initiatives in pursuit of these objectives.

The Soong Ching Ling Children's Science and Technology Museum, together with the "Children's Science Park" located next to it, will organize a variety of activities centered around the exchange of science education for young people. On that day, astronaut Shen Xingyun was invited to interact with the children, sharing and popularizing aerospace knowledge. He reviewed the developmental journey of China's aerospace science and technology and, drawing from his personal experiences, explained the process of astronaut selection and training. Interactive experience activities such as the "Little Inventors Club," Robot Carnival, Tool Library, and Natural Insect Specimens Exhibition captivated the active participation of children. Leaders and guests immersed themselves among the children to share the charm of technology. Over a hundred people attended the exhibition and engaged in science popularization activities.

CSCLF vice chairman Jing Dunquan and secretary-general Zhang Jiming, Yue Zhiyong, director of the Revolutionary Cultural Relics Department of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, Tan Ping, director of the China Cultural Relics Exchange Center, Song Haojie, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Cultural Relics Bureau; Xu Zhentao, deputy head of Haidian district of Beijing, and others attended the event. Representatives from the China Science and Technology Museum, Haidian District Culture and Tourism Bureau, and other relevant units also participated in the event.
