The Tianjin-Daxing Intercity Railway opened to traffic on Dec. 18, 2023, bringing the total length of high-speed railways in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to 2,576 kilometers.

The Tianjin-Daxing Intercity Railway, the fourth high-speed railway linking Beijing and Tianjin, takes passengers 41 minutes to travel between Tianjin West Railway Station and Beijing Daxing International Airport. The railway saw 13,200 passenger trips during the three-day New Year holiday.

During the past 15 years, the Beijing-Tianjin intercity railways recorded 340 million passenger trips. More railway stations have been built, providing additional travel routes for passengers.

The total length of high-speed railways in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region surged from 118 kilometers in 2008 to 2,576 kilometers in 2023. Commute time between major cities in the region has been shortened to no more than two hours.

The railways have improved regional connectivity and brought economic development opportunities. The shopping zones in Wuqing district of Tianjin received about 10 million customers in a year.

Benefited from the railway network, Zhangjiakou in Hebei province witnessed an influx of ice and snow sports lovers from Beijing. More than 95% of seats on trains from Beijing to Chongli in Zhangjiakou were occupied during peak time on weekends, according to Liu Xueping, a person in charge of the Zhangjiakou-Beijing Railway.

More railways will open in the region over the next five years to boost the integrated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, according to Hou Libo, a senior economist from the China Railway Beijing Group Co., Ltd.
