Li Zaiyong, former vice chairman of the Guizhou Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, has been indicted on charges of taking bribes and abuse of power, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) Wednesday.
Following the completion of the National Commission of Supervision's investigations, a procuratorate in Chongqing filed Li's case with the municipality's intermediate people's court, the SPP said in a statement.
Prosecutors accused Li of taking advantage of his various positions in Guizhou to seek benefits for others, accepting a huge amount of money and gifts in exchange.
He was also accused of abusing his power to start certain project construction, causing major losses to public properties as well as the interests of the state and the people.
Prosecutors had informed the defendant of his legal rights, interrogated him and listened to the defense counsel's arguments, the SPP statement said.
