Beijing's Shijingshan district hosted an industrial development promotion event on March 20, signing contracts for 20 major projects with a total investment of 25.2 billion yuan ($3.7 billion).

During the event, the district signed contracts with 10 key enterprises and partnered with eight universities, including Tsinghua University, along with 10 future industry ecosystem partners.

A key focus of the event was advancing the large AI model industry. Shijingshan unveiled a package of policies and measures to support the sector's development. These policies include providing subsidies to AI companies, building AI infrastructure, and supporting the development of AI applications.

One of the most significant signings was with Baidu. The tech giant will establish a new AI innovation center for its Intelligent Cloud Qianfan large model in the district. This will be the only facility of its kind in Beijing.

Baidu Vice President Xie Guangjun said the company will work with the Shijingshan government to build the base into a hub for AI innovation.

Shijingshan's focus on large AI models aligns with China's national strategy to prioritize AI development. The district's proximity to Beijing's Zhongguancun technology hub, coupled with its strong research and development capabilities, positions it as a potential leading AI center.

Chang Wei, secretary of the CPC Shijingshan District Committee, reiterated the district's commitment to advancing the AI industry. He said that Shijingshan will implement the "AI+" campaign, accelerate collaborative research and development of critical core technologies, and ensure their practical application.
