Travel orders for China's upcoming May Day holiday have increased steadily from last year's high levels, according to data released by various travel platforms. This year's travel boom highlights Beijing's position as a major travel hub, both as a popular destination and a source of eager tourists.

According to data from e-commerce platform Meituan, as of April 24, the number of cultural tourism bookings, including scenic spots, accommodation, and transportation, during the May Day holiday increased by more than 190% week-on-week. Beijing becomes the most popular tourist destination across the country, followed by Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an and Changsha. Beijing is also one of the largest sources of tourists for various destinations.

The trend extends beyond domestic travel, with outbound cruises seeing a significant increase. Booking volume of outbound cruise products on travel platforms has increased by more than 16 times year-on-year, with some routes already fully booked.

During the May Day holiday this year, a significant increase is not only seen in bookings for scenic spot tickets, hotels, and transportation but also in new trends such as gourmet tours and immersive photography experiences. Accommodation bookings in cities featuring delicious food, such as Tianshui, Zibo, Liuzhou and Yanji, have seen a significant increase.
