An upgrade project for the No. 2 main transformer at the 220-kilovolt Wudan substation was completed on April 28. This upgrade is set to help ensure reliable power supply for peak demand over the summer in the Ongniud Banner of Chifeng city, Inner Mongolia.

The 220-kilovolt Wudan substation, operational since 2004, is critical for the safety of the main power grid in the area. The State Grid Chifeng Power Supply Company carried out a 43-day upgrade project from March 16 to April 28 to strengthen the stability of the equipment and enhance the power supply capacity. To ensure timely operation, the company conducted detailed engineering and stringent quality control over the upgrade of the substation.

To overcome the challenges posed by the cold, wet weather conditions and ensure the safe implementation of the project, the operation and inspection technology department of the company took charge of on-site safety management and safety risk controls. In addition, they tracked the whole process of construction, strengthened supervision, and conducted daily reviews to refine the workflow.

The Party secretary of the company led the effort to strengthen communication and coordination with the local government and emergency management departments. Extensive safety measures were put in place, including deploying eight fire trucks, a temporary water tank, and two firefighters at the Wudan substation, to ensure the safe and stable operation of the equipment.

A total of 20 workers from the Songshan substation participated in the upgrade project and completed 229 operational tasks. At 6:14 p.m. on April 28, the No. 2 main transformer at the Wudan substation was officially put into operation, and this is expected to significantly improve the reliability of the power supply in Chifeng during peak periods, and contribute to the economic development of the Ongniud Banner.
