Hong Kong saw 3.4 million visitor arrivals in April, up around 20 percent year on year, the Hong Kong Tourism Board said Tuesday.

In the first four months of this year, Hong Kong registered about 14.62 million tourist arrivals, doubling the number of the same period last year, the tourism board said in a press release.

Data showed that in April, Hong Kong recorded about 2.48 million visitor arrivals from the Chinese mainland.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said that besides wooing tourists with various events and wonderful activities, the HKSAR government will roll out a series of measures to attract tourists.

Lee's remarks followed an announcement by China's National Immigration Administration on Saturday that eight Chinese cities would be added to the Individual Visit Scheme for Hong Kong. The policy allows visitors to come to Hong Kong as a solo traveller, meaning they would not need to join a tour group.
