E-mail China.org.cn, September 10, 2024Between the start of the year and Sept. 8, cross-border passenger traffic at Beijing Capital International Airport surged about 130% year on year, exceeding the 10-million mark.
Data shows that from January to August, the airport handled 280,000 flights and transported 44.85 million passengers, representing year-on-year increases of 18% and 34%, respectively.
In August alone, international and regional passenger traffic reached 1.46 million, a 55% year-on-year growth, the highest level in four years.
During the summer travel peak, countries in East Asia and Western Europe emerged as popular destinations, with passenger volumes increasing by 78% and 42%, respectively. Passenger numbers to countries like Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, and the U.K. all experienced substantial growth.
The airport has streamlined its customs procedures to enhance the travel experience of international passengers. For example, passengers eligible for the 24-hour and 144-hour visa-free transit policies can now easily apply for temporary entry permits. The airport has also introduced self-service mechanism that allows foreign travelers to collect their fingerprints and submit declaration forms independently.
The airport has installed multilingual signs at key locations to facilitate the entry and exit process. Announcements in both Chinese and English and hotline services in multiple languages are provided at its terminals.
