On November 20, 1980, the Special Tribunal of the Supreme People's Court conducted a public trial for the cases of the Lin Biao and Jiang Qing counter-revolutionary cliques.

The court proved that the counter-revolutionary cliques led by Lin Biao and Jiang Qing plotted to seize supreme Party leadership and state power.

On January 25, 1981, the Special Tribunal announced the final adjudication of Jiang Qing and 10 others accused, under the PRC's Criminal Law.
