Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee elected in the 17th National Congress.

Date: October 15-21, 2007

Place: Beijing

Number of delegates: 2,213 full delegates and 57 specially invited delegates

Party membership: 73 million

Major contents: The theme of the congress is to hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, follow the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of Three Represents, thoroughly apply the Scientific Outlook on Development, continue to emancipate the mind, persist in reform and opening up, pursue development in a scientific way, promote social harmony, and strive for new victories in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

The Congress passed a resolution on an amendment to the Party Constitution, which enshrined the scientific outlook on development and unveiled the Party's determination to promote more coordinated development on the basis of social harmony, environmental protection and energy conservation in addition to economic expansion. The meeting also passed resolutions on the reports of the work of the 16th CPC Central Committee and the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, fully approving the work the Party had done in past five years. The Congress elected a new 371-member Central Committee and a 127-member Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
