Taipei Zoo calls on public to choose female cub's name

Taipei Zoo in Taiwan is holding an open vote, asking the public to choose a name for its new baby panda. The female cub, born on July 6th, is the daughter of giant pandas Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan. People are currently choosing between the names of Tuanyuan, Yuanbao, Fenyuan, Tangyuan, Yuanzaihua and the cub's current nickname of Yuanzai.

Taipei Zoo in Taiwan is holding an open vote, asking the public to choose a name for its new baby panda. 

The winning name will be revealed at the end of October. The cub currently spends most of her days sleeping, eating and drinking. Her parents Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan were given as a goodwill gift to Taiwan by the Chinese mainland.

Wu Yixin, Spokeswoman of Taipei Zoo, said, "The name Tuan Yuan takes one character from each of the names of her parents, Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan. It also means reunion."

"It's cute and chubby. I'd like to call her Yuan Zai."

"I like Yuan Bao. It sounds catchy, and it means lucky."
