Limited use of Tibet card
Adjust font size:

Playing the "international card" cannot help the Dalai group realize its purpose of separating Tibet from the motherland, says an article in People's Daily. The following is an excerpt:

At a time when some people in the Western countries are stirring anti-China waves, the Dalai Lama has also started to travel around the world.

The same thing happened last year amid a new round of the "China threat" theory. Then too the Dalai Lama was on his visits to Germany, Canada and the United States.

Though every time he claims his visit has nothing to do with politics, the synchronized timing has made people wonder whether the visits are really unrelated to politics. As a Canadian newspaper said, his visit comes during an extremely sensitive period.

In fact, behind the timing is the coincidence of mutual needs. Some people want to use the Dalai group as a tool in order to put the Chinese government under more pressures, while the Dalai group wants to seek "Tibet independence" with the help of these people and tries to internationalize the "Tibet issue".

Since the 1980s when the Dalai group accelerated the pace of internationalizing the "Tibet issue," some Western powers have actively supported it. Soon after the Dalai Lama put forward the "Five-Point Peace Plan" in the United States in 1987, the US Congress passed a resolution on the "Tibet issue". After the March 14 riots, the House of Representatives and the Senate of the US as well as the European Parliament passed resolutions on the "Tibet issue".

Half-a-century of exiled life has made the Dalai group familiar with the Western mindset. That is why it harps on topics like human rights, peace, environmental protection and culture. Meanwhile, Dalai Lama's followers have kept their mouths shut when it comes to the dark serfdom under the rule of the current Dalai Lama and to the brutality of "Tibetan Youth Congress".

Faced with the reality of the big progress Tibet has made, they only resort to slander, covering up the issue of progress by false allegations of either cultural genocide or the absence of religious freedom.

Still, the effect of the "international card" can only be limited. As yet, not a single country in the world accepts the so-called "Tibet independence". There is no bargaining room left in the "Tibet issue".
