China's top political advisory body needs to make due contributions to promote social stability and harmony, and push forward economic restructuring, an editorial in the People's Daily says.

The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) should fully carry out its functions of political consultation, democratic supervision and participation in the discussion and management of state affairs this year, said the editorial to be published Thursday by the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

This year marks the start of the country's 12th Five-Year Plan, which is crucial for the country to build a well-off society in all respects, the editorial says.

The CPPCC and its members should help accelerate the country's economic restructuring and strengthen and innovate social management this year, it says.

The editorial hails the CPPCC for its contributions last year in working out proposals for the 12th Five-Year Plan, along with the nation's steady and fast economic development.

It says 2010 was an extraordinary year for China as the country finished the targets set for the 11th Five-Year Plan amid the impact of the global financial crisis and changes in domestic and international environment.

The annual session of the CPPCC National Committee will open on Thursday.
