China urges all parties involved to continue the dialogue and consultations as to guide the Ukraine crisis onto the tracks of political settlement. China believes that the only priority now is to exercise calm and restraint in order to prevent any further escalation of the situation.

"China is in talks with the various parties involved and we will play a constructive role in providing a political settlement for the Ukraine issue," Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated at a press conference on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature.

He urged all parties to bear in mind the fundamental interests of all ethnic communities in Ukraine, as well as the interests of regional peace and overall capacity.

He said China will take a just and objective stance on the Ukraine issue.

"It is regrettable that the situation in Ukraine has come to what it is today. Yet it is not by accident that the situation has reached this point," he said. "There is a complex history behind it, as well as several conflicting interests."

"The more complex the problem, the more necessary for it to be handled in a prudent way," he added.
