Top Chinese legislator pledges loyalty to Party

Top Chinese legislator Zhang Dejiang on Thursday promised "unwavering" loyalty to the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Speaking to lawmakers from Shanxi Province, Zhang, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said the NPC would "exercise its duty of legislation and supervision in line with major strategies put forward by the CPC Central Committee."

The NPC, China's top legislature, will provide a legal guarantee for the country to complete building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, he added.

Also on Thursday, in a panel deliberation with lawmakers from Jiangsu Province, CPC disciplinary chief Wang Qishan urged local authorities to adapt the policies of the CPC Central Committee to local realities.
