Brazil's mixed martial arts middleweight champion Anderson Silva could face Chris Weidman this northern hemisphere summer, according to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White.

Silva, whose last fight was a first-round knockout of Stephan Bonnar in October, previously said he was unlikely to return to the ring until late 2013 to focus on his family and business interests.

But White said the 37-year-old could defend his title earlier than planned against the American world No. 3.

"We're thinking about summer. It looks like Weidman as long as Weidman is healthy. That's probably the fight we'll make," White said, adding the duel was likely to take place in the United States.

Silva is considered the world's best pound-for-pound mixed martial artist and has not lost a professional bout since 2006. Endit
