2013 Tour of Hainan International Regatta kicked off on Thursday in Sanya, a resort city in island province of Hainan.

Thirty-nine sailing teams with over 300 sailors from fourteen countries and regions, including Germany, the United States, Russia, Australia, Netherlands, England and China will compete for the total prize of RMB 300,000 yuan (about 47,850 U.S. dollars) during the 11-day event.

This year the teams will be sailing around the whole island for the second time over a distance of nearly 750 nautical miles (about 1389 kilometers).

Different from the last regatta in 2012, all the vessels are provided by the organizing committee this year. Endi
