Taiwanese Wu Ching-kuo, president of the International Boxing Association, confirmed on Thursday that he will run for president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Wu, also an IOC executive board member, officially announced his candidacy in Taipei after handing a candidature letter to the IOC on May 17.
Wu said if his candidacy succeeds, he will look to increase the influence of the IOC and Olympic Games on wider society. He also vowed to promote education as a way to prevent doping in sport.
The election will be held in September in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Wu, born in 1946 in the Chinese mainland's Chongqing municipality, joins Thomas Bach of Germany, Ng Ser Miang of Singapore and Richard Carrion of Puerto Rico as declared candidates in the race to replace Jacques Rogge, who will step down in September after 12 years in charge of the Olympic movement.
