Chinese disabled swimmer Dai Guohong successfully proposed to his girlfriend after the last match in his career at Chinese National Games for Disabled here on Friday.

"The most proud thing I did in my life is not to win the gold medals but to be with you. I'll love you with my life. Would you marry me?" said Dai who just won silver medal with his teammates in mutilation 4x50m medley relay. Dressed in all red, Su Simiao, his girl friend, said "Yes" with tears in her eyes.

Back to year 2008 when Dai was a student in Beichuan High School, he was left in coma for two months and lost both legs in the Wenchuan earthquake on May 12.

He began to try breaststroke for disabled in 2009 and became a national champion in the next year. His fortune hit the peak in 2013 when he met Su in a family gathering.

The relationship began after a night talk on Chinese Valentine's Day. In more than two years' time, both of them overcame doubt from the outside, even from Su's parents.

"I was always asked did we get together before he lost his legs," said Su. "I always said it's after that and he is just that charming."

"Disabled people have the right to live a happy life," added her fiance.

Beside proposing, Dai also announced that he will retire and go to university to learn life-education in the upcoming two years. He prepares to establish an institute to teach life-education to disabled people, letting them find the meaning of life. Endi
