Three Gorges Dam starts discharging water

Flood is discharged from the Three Gorges Reservoir through the dam in Yinchang, central China's Hubei Province, July 5, 2008. The Three Gorges Dam Project has started discharging water to lower the water level in the reservoir because of excessive rainfall upstream. Operators opened six spillways to discharge water of 11,000 cubic meters per second. (Xinhua/Liu Baoping)
