A former director general of a tax bureau in Hainan Province was arrested in Jiangxi Province on Chinese New Year's Eve after a two-month chase, a local newspaper reported today.

Chen Xiaotao, the former head of Haikou Regional Tax Bureau in the provincial capital, was arrested for alleged involvement in a major bribery case on January 25.

Police also caught Du Jian, who allegedly gave Chen shelter, according to the Haikou Evening News report.

Hainan Prosecutors Office started to investigate the suspect last November.

The suspect went on the run before settling secretly at Du's hometown, who was a manager of a Haikou company.

The case is still under investigation.
