Adjust font size:

One teacher and seven students were injured on Friday when a classroom collapsed at a southwest China primary school, local education officials said on Saturday.

The accident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. when a moth-eaten wood girder on the classroom suddenly broke and caused the collapse of the brick building at Zhongjisi Village in Suining City, Sichuan Province, burying the eight people, said the officials.

The teacher and seven children, about six years old, were being treated in hospital and in stable condition, they said.

Further investigation into the accident is continuing.

The rural primary school has eight classrooms and 100 students.
