Adjust font size:

Thirty-seven students were admitted to the hospital after poisonous gas leaked from a nearby chemical storehouse in northeast China's Liaoning Province, hospital sources said on Thursday.

Three students, including one who is seriously ill, were still under observation in the First Affiliate Hospital of the China Medical University on Thursday morning. The 34 other patients were discharged.

The leak occurred at 9:00 PM on Wednesday at the Liaoning Petroleum and Chemical Storehouse in the Dongling District, located in the industrial city of Shenyang, investigators said.

A container lid broke away from the container after a rise in temperature, according to investigators. They offered no other details.

The vocational school, which is next to the storehouse, has about 300 students.
