A 23-year-old Canadian woman has been found killed in a residential complex in the city's Changning District, the Shanghai Public Security Bureau said today.

The bureau's 110 Command Center received a call about 5:30 am on Monday saying that the woman was found dead at her apartment in Jinseng Plaza at 490 Zhaohua Road, according to a statement posted on the bureau's Website today.

The woman, who was only identified as Diana in the statement, arrived in China on June 24, the bureau said.

The Canadian Press identified the woman as Diana O'Brien, a model, of Salt Spring Island in British Columbia and put her age at 22.

Her roommate and fellow model Charlotte Wood, found O'Brien's body.

O'Brien had been living in the Jinseng Plaza apartment with Wood. They both worked for Canada-based Barbara Coultish Model Management.

While in Shanghai, she was reportedly working for local-based agency Jh Model Management.

A Shanghai Daily reporter found Jh's office – Room 207, Building 5 at No. 50 Puhuitang Road in Xuhui District – was closed this afternoon.

Phone calls to Jh went unanswered and its Website could not be accessed yesterday.

Neighbors near Jh's office told Shanghai Daily that they didn't know the small room was used as an office for a modeling agency.
