Quake of 4.3 strikes Sichuan

A tremor measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck southwest China's Sichuan Province at 9:12 p.m. on Friday.

The Sichuan Provincial Earthquake Administration said the quake occurred between Shifang and Mianzhu, both in Sichuan and among the worst- hit areas in the major May 12 earthquake.

The tremor was felt in other areas such as Wenchuan, Beichuan, Qingchuan and Chengdu.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The death toll from the May 12 earthquake in Sichuan Province and its neighboring region stood at 69,222 as of Thursday noon, and the number of people listed as missing and injured reached 18,176 and 374,638 respectively.

In the 72 hours ending Thursday noon, three aftershocks between 4.0 to 4.9 magnitude, one between 6.0 to 6.9 magnitude and 498 aftershocks at or below magnitude 3.9 were monitored in the quake zone, according to the China Earthquake Administration.

A total of 22,521 aftershocks had been detected since May 12.
