Eight people have been confirmed dead and 27 others injured in a bus accident on Wednesday in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, a local official said on Thursday.

The bus with 43 people on board fell off a flyover in Xi'an, capital city of Shaanxi, at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday. The injured people have been sent to hospital, said the official with Xi'an city government.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
