Police have caught the knifeman, who is suspected of mugging and injuring two foreign tourists in Beijing last week, in south China's booming city of Shenzhen on Tuesday night.

The public security bureau of Beijing announced on Tuesday night that the suspect Wang Yan, 34, was caught at around 10:30 p.m. in Shenzhen City neighboring Hong Kong.

Wang, who was from Qiqihar City of northeastern Heilongjiang Province, confessed that he attacked and intended to rob two foreigners on Oct. 29 at a parking lot and nearby a restaurant in Beijing's Chaoyang District, according to the bureau.

Wang would be brought back to Beijing soon for further investigation, said a spokesman of the bureau.

The two injured foreigners, one from the United States and another from Russia, have been out of danger. The American was discharged from hospital on the night of Oct. 29, said the spokesman.

Wang first attacked 42-year-old American, who is only identified as Joesph, at around 11:50 a.m. on Oct. 29 at a car park. He failed to rob the man, who called for help, but the American was slightly wounded in the buttock.

More than one hour later, Wang stabbed Russian Stepanenko Victor, 30, inside a restaurant near the Beijing Railway Station. Wang grabbed a bag, with a laptop and a wallet inside, and ran away, while Victor was in a serious condition with four stab wounds in the arm and abdomen.

Victor is now being treated in Peking Union Medical College Hospital and he is in a stable condition following surgeries.

Zhang Yupei, president of the hospital, said the operations were successful. Victor had been transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit and he was recovering well.
