A house fire killed one person on Tuesday in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, a local official said on Thursday.

The home was owned by a French woman who was called Fang Fang in Chinese. Her native name was not known.

She is missing but police were unable to identify whether or not the body found inside the home was hers. They are waiting results of DNA testing.

The fire started at 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday. It was out by 10:20 p.m. in Miao Autonomous County of Rongshui, the local official said.

Neighbors said the woman who owned the home had financially supported education in the region for the past ten years.

Further investigation is underway.
