5,000 tents shipped to Fujian for post-typhoon shelter

Ministry of Civil Affairs has sent 5,000 tents to the southeastern province of Fujian to provide temporary shelter for those affected by Typhoon Fung Wong.

The ministry also sent two relief teams to Fujian and Zhejiang to deal with the aftermath of the storm, the ministry's Disaster Relief Bureau said in a statement on Tuesday.

Fung Wong, the eighth tropical storm that hit China this year, made landfall late on Monday.

The typhoon, which was downgraded to a tropical storm on Tuesday,destroyed 110 houses and forced the evacuation of 390,000 people in Fujian Province.

More than 450,000 people have reported losses as a result of the storm and 107 flights have been canceled in eastern China.
