China sees 170 million motor vehicles on roads in 2008

There were 169.88 million motor vehicles in China as of Wednesday, up 6.33 percent from last year, the Ministry of Public Security said.

There were 180.66 million drivers, up 10.23 percent.

The total number of vehicles includes cars, motorcycles, tractors, trailers and other motor vehicles.

Private motor vehicles rose by 6.4 percent year-on-year and accounted for 76.14 percent of all motor vehicles, statistics from the ministry's Traffic Control Bureau showed. The rate of increase rate was down by 4.52 percentage points from last year.
