A bombing in an office building left one man dead and two injured in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on Thursday, police said.

A man detonated the explosives at 2:10 p.m., killing himself, police said.

The man, named Han Wushun, 42, originally from southwest China's Sichuan Province, arrived at the company building in downtown Urumqi at around 1 p.m. with a black bag, 40 centimeters long and 20 centimeters wide, police said.

Han threatened the office workers and demanded the company, Xinjiang Beixin Road and Bridge Construction Co., Ltd, pay him 4,500 yuan (662 U.S. dollars) in unpaid wages, police said.

Three office workers were trapped in the room. One escaped while Han was not watching him and alerted other occupants of the building to evacuate, police said.

The two trapped men, Yang Tao and Lu Jianzhong, tried to reason with Han in the office, police said.

They rushed out of the room when Han tried to connect the wires of the bomb. Yang sustained injuries to his face and Lu to his hands. Yang was sent to hospital, but his condition was not life-threatening, police said.
