The Macao Businesswomen Association ( MBWA) has gathered some 299 couples from four regions of China to attend a mass wedding show held at Macao's landmark place, the Ruins of St. Paul's Church, the Macao Post Daily reported on Friday.

Entitled "Century Wedding -- Love in Macao", the two-million- pataca (253,000 U.S. dollars) wedding show on Thursday involved a total of 299 couples, who came from Macao, Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

The MBWA was trying to promote Macao to the outside world and to attract more travelers to visit Macao through the event, which was started last year, and the MBWA was planning to do it every year, the daily quoted the MBWA President Jennie Kong Mei Feng as saying.

The event last year also saw 299 couples from the same four Chinese regions happily wedded in Macao, according to the daily. Kong also said that her association plans to invite couples from Singapore and Malaysia in next year's event.

The mass wedding show also included the baking of a 293- centimeter-long and 155-centimetre-wide pork chop bun, which reportedly weighted in around 130 kilograms, by 45-year-old local baker Alan Leung Sek Fai.

The wedding show organizers said they were in the process of submitting an application to the Guinness World Records for the mega-bun to be listed as the world's biggest, according to the daily.
