Workers will demolish a viaduct in a central China city Wednesday, the same structure that collapsed earlier this month killing nine people and injuring 16 others.

Workers are clearing the site on the collpased viaduct.

A 160-meter section in the central part of the viaduct collapsed on May 17 at 4:24 p.m. as it was being dismantled, crushing 24 vehicles below.

The 2,750-meter-long viaduct on Hongqi Road in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province, will be demolished with explosives at 11:30 a.m., said a notice jointly issued by the city's construction and public security authorities.

Stores were ordered to close and residents living within 100 meters of the cordoned-off area must leave their homes by 8 a.m., the notice said.
