A flood caused by torrential rain in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality killed eight people and left three others missing, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Monday.

The flood occurred at the Zhuyi River, a tributary of the Yangtze River in Fengjie County, at around 5 a.m., the local government said.

The authorities have also evacuated 12 households as of Saturday as more heavy rain was likely to hit the region.
