Wall collapse kills five passers-by in Yunnan
Adjust font size:

The collapse of a wall encircling a construction site killed five passers-by Wednesday in the county seat of Fuyuan in southwest China's Yunnan Province, according to the local production safety department.

The wall collapse was caused by a truck, which rolled over and hit the wall from inside, after it crushed a concrete cover board at the construction site.

The wall fell on the five people passing by in the street outside the site.

An official, who declined to be named, said the truck driver named Zhou Xiaoyin had been detained by police.

An initial investigation found Zhou drove the truck carrying bricks to the construction site, where a market is being built.

The investigation is still under way to identify the dead.
