Authorities to check drug addicts at recreational sites
Adjust font size:

China's drug control authorities will carry out a nationwide survey and register of drug addicts to clean up entertainment places in the run-up to the 60th founding anniversary of New China.

The National Narcotics Control Commission said in a statement posted on its website Friday that local authorities would try to identify new addicts, so as to get a complete picture on the population of drug addicts in the country.

The addicts would be treated in accordance with law, and some would be forcibly isolated for giving up narcotics or brought under supervision.

Places of entertainment that are implicated with drug-related crimes would be shut down or have their licenses revoked, and the owners would face police investigation, according to the statement.

This year marks the 60th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China, which was founded on October 1, 1949.
