Adjust font size:

Hong Kong Customs said Thursday that it seized 1.6 kg of heroin with an estimated value of 1.4 million HK dollars and arrested two suspected drug traffickers Wednesday at the Hong Kong-Macao Ferry Terminal.

Customs officers found the drugs in a false compartment of a baggage carried by a 49-year-old Malaysian man arriving from Malaysia via Macao.

In a follow-up operation last night, customs officers arrested a 32-year-old African man who collected the drug-laden baggage in Yau Ma Tei.

The two arrested men will be charged with trafficking dangerous drugs. They will appear at Eastern Magistrates' Courts on July 24.

If convicted, they may face a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of 5 million HK dollars.
