Adjust font size:

The 2009 China International General Aviation Convention will be held in northwestern Shaanxi Province from Oct. 16 to 19, the organizers have said.

The convention will be held in Pucheng County and the provincial capital of Xi'an. Pucheng will host a string of air shows and an aircraft static exhibition, while Xi'an will host an aviation equipment exhibition, a forum and trade talks, a spokesman with the Xi'an Yanliang National Aviation Hi-tech Industrial Base said.

More than 100 aircraft from the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Sweden and China will be displayed at the aircraft static exhibition in Pucheng, he said.

"The aerobatic show from Sweden will be a highlight of the air shows," he said. " China's police helicopters will conduct an anti-terror drill."

The forum will focus on the management of low-altitude airspace.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China has recently given approval for the Pucheng industrial park in Xi'an to open low-altitude airspace for general aviation in 2010 between an airport and more than five scenic spots in Shaanxi.

Low altitude usually refers to airspace below 3,000 meters. General aviation refers to flights other than military and scheduled airline flights.

The convention, sponsored by the Civil Aviation Administration of China and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, is expected to attract 80,000 spectators from all over the world, he added.
