Replay of March Lhasa riots impossible: Living Buddha
Adjust font size:

Separatists will find no room to replay a scenario they plotted in the riots in Tibet last March, said a Living Buddha on Friday.

There will be "no problems" of stability in Tibet this year, as "a small group of secessionists who attempt to make troubles have already lost social support," Chubakang Tubdain Kaizhub, chairman of the Tibet Branch of the Buddhist Association of China (TBBAC), said on the sidelines of the annual session of the country's top political advisory body.

"The reason why the riots last March could be quickly defused lay on the effective measures by the central government and, more importantly, the support of the Tibetan people," said the Living Buddha, who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee.

"A handful of separatists can by no means win the people's heart, and their disturbance would only result in the collapse of the social foundation for their existence," he told Xinhua.

"The Tibetan people are living in comfort and stability now. Their happiness lies in stability, and secession is not what they want," he said.
